“Jeff Bezos doesn’t need your money. Support local! (Art by your favorite neighborhood Jenny!)”

Jenna Warby

“Today’s a good day, my friends at Baby and Buddy Animal Rescue just released their new logo I designed for them! B&B does such a wonderful job providing care, compassion, and constant care for their animals – I’m so happy that I was able to help them find a logo that reflected these things.

Just for fun, I also designed some t-shirts, totes, and hats to show off their new look. Follow them on FB and Instagram for some quality pupperoni content!”

Lauren Waters

“A pattern that mixes icons my team and I made for the collection. It’s like a trippy rainbow ‘I Spy.'” 🌈⚡️🚀🦖📓🌎🦕📚

“There are only 2 kinds of people in this world… People who say they love ABBA… And liars.”  ⭐️💫

“Not every design makes it into a paper collection. This clever girl didn’t make the cut, but I decided to keep her around anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tomorrow begins my first full week back in the office after quarantine. It’s done a lot for me emotionally and psychologically to be back in my work environment. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a total homebody… Just not a work-from-homebody. 🙅🏻‍♀️ Things may change once again (please no), but until then I’m happy with this little slice of ‘normal.‘” 😷🤲🏻🧼

ALUMNI FOCUS – Davin, Helen, Cassidy, Amber, Esther, Matt, Katrina, Dianna, Jenna, Lauren & Clayton

Davin Abegg

“4 recent drawings I’ve done that look pretty cool together.”

Helen Cox

“It has been an honor to spend the last week reflecting on some of my black heroes and sharing their messages and faces. Due to Covid and caring for my family, I cannot risk going to protests. However, it was not an option for me to not contribute to this movement in some way, so I decided to do what I do: create.

I hope these have given some meaning to someone out there. I am considering making some prints and donating the profits to the Black Lives Matter Global Network. If anyone is interested in something like that, please let me know. If not, feel free to save these digital copies. I also have PDF files for anyone who would prefer to print at home: bit.ly/helenalux-black-heroes. Much love to everyone right now during this crazy but important time in human history.”

Cassidy Demkov

“I’ve always said that my dream was to design dog stuff in an office full of dogs. Goal accomplished. 🖤🐶 If your pup is in need of a really cute bandana head over to Foggy Dog and check out my floral bandanas.”
thefoggydog.com

🍋 🍋 🍋 “Definitely one of my favorite flavors and scents. Always fresh and delicious. Fact: my business cards smell like lemons because I accidentally spilled lemon oil on my desk and they absorbed the oil. Didn’t even realize it until someone asked me if I purposely scented them.” 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Amber Giles

“The latest lettering doodle.” 🚙🍍🤜🏼🤛🏾

Esther Longmore

“Just trying to loosen up a bit.”

“I’m here to bring you something more than doom and gloom in your feed! Here are some of the products I designed that were released in Stampin Up!’s 2020 Annual Catalog today.”

Matt Page

“My buddy Thomas interviewed next about the book for Rational Faiths. You can read more about the book and see artwork hitherto unseen.”

Katrina Flores Parkinson

“I needed to take a small break from painting this week. While looking through some old photos, I found this picture of Hudson and I in the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Francisco a couple years back. It’s been a cherished memory. We had such happy expressions on our faces I chose to recreate the picture in my sketchbook with some of my Art Nouveau touches.”

Dianna Totland

“I need another subject. 😂 at least I’m consistent with what I paint.”

Jenna Warby

“These beautiful babies are about to find their new homes! The JWD Shop Rag is my custom printed & designed thank you for clients and employers – I love how they turned out. Feels good to be making career moves.”

Lauren Waters

“June marks my third anniversary at @americancrafts . I haven’t used this space much to curate my 9-5 work, but I think I’d like to change that…

Let’s kick things off with some dinos, shall we? A couple weeks ago I finished reading Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. Then over the weekend a friend rented out a theater to have a viewing of the original JP film. Seeing it larger than life was something else… 🤩 So I’m commemorating the occasion by sharing some of the dinosaurs I contributed to a @shimelle paper collection called Field Trip. They all look pretty friendly – just don’t get too close.” 🦕🏝🌋🦖

FROM AIGA SLC:

AIGA Salt Lake City’s annual Student Portfolio Review has gone digital!

The review was moved to a digital review this year and was a two day event!

The digital keynote presentation was held on June 5th by the brilliant: Ellen Lupton. The review itself happened the following day on June 6th through a series on video calls with reviewers.

Davin Abegg

“Some paintings I was commissioned to do this past week.”

Maaike Bennett

“This is the result of today’s efforts for my student’s Alphabet Magnet Game. I am most proud of the Lion and the Owl (even though I grumbled the entire time while doing the latter *Laughs*), and least proud of the Cat.”

Jacqueline Campbell-Michels

“Completed my painting that I started two weeks ago on my camping trip.”

Helen Cox

“Here’s a recent label design I did for Hugger Mugger. I’m in love with these new wipes!”

Cassidy Demkov

“Playing around with some ideas for handkerchiefs. Do you prefer the dark or the light version?”

“How pretty is this quilt @lia.giannotti made with the Sweet Rose floral print from my Wildflower Collection?! I’ve heard some concerns about using the fabric for quilting but Lia said it turned out great and is so soft.”

Nadia Dolzhenko

“An old ranch along the Nine Mile Canyon Road.”

“Shared space on aluminum panels. Also direct on wall… and  on the doors. Yes. We do it all… and more.” #corporate #branding #signage 3D #lettering #cut letters #logo #cutvinyl logos

Andrew Malin

“During our Star Wars rpg session last night, Nathan described one of the rooms as having a pin up of a Trandoshan on the wall. This sparked a discussion since some of the other players and I had a hard time picturing what that would look like. A cursory search of the internet yielded no satisfying results. So this happened. May the 4th be you.”

Matt Page

“The year is 2929, the planet earth has long been abandoned, and her former inhabitants have made their home on a planet light years away, in the Kolob solar system. This is their story. But also the story of the other diverse alien cultures they share the planet with, including its indigenous people, known as the Othersheep. They are all children of the Celestial Parents and this is New Zion.”

“This is book one of an ongoing project that will include other books, trading cards, toys, etc. It’s just the beginning.

Welcome To New Zion will be a 55+ page hardcover book, consisting of several different stories – some in comics format and others in storybook format (one illustration per page). It will also include pinup art pages, coloring pages, activity pages, and more. All introducing you to this new world and it’s characters.

It should be available for preorder in a couple of weeks and hopefully I will be able to start shipping them out by the end of the month.”

“The woman on the cover is Liahona. She is the last living holder of the Power of the Priests, and the leader of The Valiant (the team of heroes on New Zion).”

Teako Warfield-Graham

“Our team just launched about 20+ new websites for every department and massive online digital services for Sandy City. So the public can do their business online.

I’ve painstakingly headed this project for two years. Collaborating across the US and with teams all the way down in Australia. There is still so much to do.
But as a women-in-tech, a woman of color, and a digital engineer this launch today it’s def a proud career moment.”
Here’s the launch video.”

Lacee Black

“The owner of this piece is retiring and moving out of the country. She has graciously allowed me to sell prints of her piece. So with her permission we had a little photo session this evening. Take your fill folks, this is the last time we’ll get to see this baby in person! “

Ruben De La Torre

“Arte Album”

Cassidy Demkov

“Never thought I’d be excited for the month of January but this definitely has me looking forward to 2021.”

“I am so excited to be able to share my newest collection with Cloud9 Fabrics , inspired by all of the Spring flowers popping up in my garden. Go to my website http://www.cassidydemkov.com to see the entire collection or visit Cloud9’s website” https://cloud9fabrics.com/fabrics/perennial/

In my little backyard garden I have doves, birds and squirrels that spend their mornings and evenings at my feeders and playing in my flowers. It was just too hard not to include them in another pattern. They have made an appearance in a few of my patterns because they are just the cutest little guys.

Katrina Flores

“Oh students, how we miss you! We cannot wait till the day when we can have you talented people back in the studio creating beautiful things. But for the time being virtual classes seems to be doing the trick:) here is what we painted with one of our students over a FaceTime art lesson today. We can still have have great art lessons through technology!” ~ Black Rabbit Studios

Esther Longmore

“A little illustration I did over the weekend. Might put it in my bathroom.”

Norah Strebel

“Working on a new collection….here is first “tester” What do you think?”

Cami Thurber

“I had a day full of meetings. Doodling turned into the Green Man. Just in time for Beltane.”

ALUMNI CORONA ART – Nadya, Maaike, Ruben, Amber, Ben, Kim, Becky, Norah & Lauren

During the 2020 Pandemic our alumni use their creativity in many ways.

Nadya Bratt

“Help me fight COVID-19!

I’m donating all proceeds from my book, The Estuary Veins, to the COVID-19 Response Fund. When you purchase a copy of the e-book, I will donate 100% of the proceeds to the World Health Organization.”

Maaike Bennett

“Sometimes I get sad these days. And that’s okay. I got to see my student the other day from far, far away and I ended up weeping because I realized that I missed them so much. These emotions are valid. We are all going through a lot of stress.

We are maintaining our distance to protect the ones we love, and I think the phrase, “absence makes the heart grow fonder,” is true. The amount of kindness we’ve seen the world-over has been astronomical, but that doesn’t make it any less hard sometimes.

So you just have to draw it out or write it out or just voice it. Being open and vulnerable and saying, ” hey, look, I am really scared and sometimes I just want my Mom to swoop in and hug me, and make everything better,” provides an opportunity for others to say, “you know what, me too,” and that can help both parties to know they aren’t alone.

I am really lucky because I get to spend all this time with the man I love, who I just always enjoy being with. He is my best friend. *Hugs tightly* So I am blessed, but I still miss my Family, my In-Law Family, my Friend-family, my mission friends, my coworkers, the people from church, and all the children I adore.

It”s the people I miss the most, and that says a lot about what is really important.” ❤️

Ruben De La Torre

“Pigeons are probably the most bored of this whole situation, like who are they going to shit on since everyone’s home.” 🐦 💩
🤷‍♂️😂

Amber Giles

“I’ve been seeing/hearing this phrase off and on the last little while. I’d like to think that as we move through the twists and turns of life right now, instead of working toward getting “back to normal” that we are going “forward to something better.”🤔🙂

Ben Heighton

Kim Jeppson

“I’ve been inspired by @renaissancechik to paint rocks with fun designs and inspirational messages and leave them around my neighborhood. (I’ve kept a few for my own garden, too!) It’s been really fun and I can’t wait to take them around on my next walk.”

Becky Larsen Pease

“B&W of my life, day #315”  😷

Norah Strebel

“I made a bunch of these things today….”

Lauren Waters

“Another week, another @drawntogether_challenge … This week we drew our childhood homes. My childhood home is also my Mom’s childhood home, built by my Grandpa Bird almost 70 years ago. 🏡 He and my Grandma Bird raised 7 daughters in this 2500-ish square foot, 4 bedroom, 1 3/4 bathroom rambler in East Millcreek, Utah. My parents raised 3 daughters, 1 son, and 5 cats (not all at once😸).”

“James & The Giant Peach 🍑
I came so close to finishing this @drawntogether_challenge a few times last week. Close, but never close enough! 🙄 Then a temporary iPad malfunction motivated me to finish it while I could, so here we are… Still together, but still apart.” 🦋🐛🕷🐞🦗

“This week’s @drawntogether_challenge is On the Shelf… I went in a more existential direction and thought about some behaviors and attitudes I’ve tried to “shelve.” Though, my own mental shelves are probably more sparse with far fewer cobwebs than this illustration suggests. These are simply all the things I’m working on as I try to overcome my self-sabotaging tendencies. Here’s hoping it gets easier and this collection remains shelved!”

ALUMNI FOCUS: Davin, Derek & Brighton, Ryan, Helen, Ruben, Cassidy, Amber, Melissa, Kim, & Matt

Davin Abegg

“Here’s a digital gouache painting I did of @impoppy her new album is really great!” 🤘🤘🖤🖤🖤

Some recent favs I’ve done for @idrawrandomfollowers

Derek & Brighton Ballard

“Twin Peaks aired 30 years ago today. Reposting some Twin Peaks inspired items we’ve created over the past 5 years. Here are some shots of a collaborative coffee release with @bluecoppercoffee and limited edition screen printed poster for Spoke Art Gallery.”

“This pin was actual inspired by The Return | Epsiode 8.”

Listen I know we all have a love/hate relationship with the USPS. Let’s take this time to show the USPS some love. It appears in the race to privatize everything and concede to the desire of corporations, our federal government doesn’t give a bucket of piss for any programs necessary for the good of common people. Only takes a minute or two, start by texting “USPS” to 50409.”

“This is a serious message! We’re warning you with peace and love, we’ve got a new bandanna coming your way! 🚨🚨🚨 This 100% cotton bandanna is inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, and is a brand new release for Spoke Art’s online gallery celebrating all things Miyazaki on April 16th! Check out @spoke_art for the details, and join us in your quarantine outfit of choice.” 🛍📦

Ryan Bangerter

“This is the last time I redesign her I swear. “

A mermaid I designed for my daughter.

Helen Cox

“Some wood studies from a few weeks ago.”

Ruben De La Torre

“Logo I designed for a friend.”

Cassidy Demkov

“A little peek at a few things I’m working on… drawing flowers and planting flowers.”

“Happy Easter!”

Amber Giles

“It’s not often St. Patrick’s Day falls on Tuesday the 17th but when it does, you have to letter something to celebrate both things. 😉🍀🍍
. . .
Simple lettering style, both done freehand. One with a blue pen and the other with the Pen Tool.”

“Late Night Lettering Lyrics (and song titles).” 🎶📝

Melissa Hurd

“I did a thing!”

Kim Jeppson

“These are some little cards I’ve been painting when I have a minute. They’re not perfect, as you can see. Some of them have blobs that I tried to erase, some of the dots ran together… I really enjoyed just painting for no other reason than I like doing it. There is a power and peace in creating something purely for the fun of it!”

 Matt Page

“The latest piece in a series I started in 2014. Our little guy is now in those awkward teen years.”

“Here is the progression of new Family Portrait drawing I did last week. Start with a really loose and messy sketch, then tighten it up, then put down my inks and shading, then the tattoos and colors.”

Lauren Waters

“Though it took some convincing, I finally watched the new @littlewomenmovie a few weeks ago.

In honor of this story, I’m going to post quotes from each of the characters over the next few weeks. This one describes my feelings about the latest movie – Louisa May Alcott’s beautiful story was in loving hands with Greta Gerwig, and she beautified it all the more.” 📖
