“Charts and Graphs for work! And all I hear in my head is Kerry saying ‘more charts and graphs’ during Ad Workshop class.”

Jill De Haan

Lettering is such a beautiful way to express yourself. Exploring the depths of your style, creativity and voice is something I think every person can benefit from. I crack up when I see my work from a few years ago. There were times when I thought I’d just find a new hobby and others when I felt I’d really created something special and both experiences always pushed me to evolve and do better. I’m so grateful for the art of lettering and for the career that I’ve built from it. One of the unexpected benefits I’ve gotten from lettering is the wonderful community. Everyone is so positive and encouraging and I’m endlessly inspired by their beautiful work. It is for that reason that I would love to enter @homsweethom ‘s #letterwest scholarship challenge. I know there will be a ton of incredible entries but I figured I’d give it a shot! Here’s hoping I get to spend some quality time with my fellow lettering folk!” ❤️❤️

“Holy smokes, first mural done! And have a leg up on the next two thanks to help from my amaze sisters! Thanks @missyhealyturner and @libbykleyn 😇😇 for staying up late with me!”

“I could flower-doodle absolutely all day. Or all night in this case.” #6hourslater #hallofbreakfast @ Hall of Breakfast

“Great night at Monster Drawing Rally at Kimball Art Center with Park City Summit County Arts Council. Fun to participate as one of the artists and have our work go to great causes! Artwork was hung in plastic and taped to the wall for people to buy.”

AIGA Salt Lake City’s Student Portfolio Review is always a great event for students to gain advice, insight and industry information from SLC professional designers as well as design and illustration faculty from Utah colleges.

SLCC Visual Art & Design Department Associate Professor Kerry Gonzáles and Assistant Professor Virag White, both in the Graphic Design specialization, joined their advanced students at this year’s event. Both said they were very proud of the six VAD Graphic Design students who showed their portfolios and were reviewed by creative directors and faculty from other institutions.
