Creative Mornings – CHAOS

September 28, 8:30am – 10:00am MDT. Hosted at Industrious
Part of a series on Chaos

Free tickets available! Register here.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mindy Gledhill’s relentless search for meaning through music has led her all over the map—from recording wildly successful indie albums with award winning producers to being a guest artist on multiple acclaimed albums including a Grammy-nominated album (Kaskade’s Fire & Ice). She ventured further down the rabbit hole of music, chasing the allure of music in film where she caught spots on primetime TV (So You Think You Can Dance, Bones, 20/20, The Good Wife, Dancing with the Stars), and in commercials (Fruit of the Loom’s Olympic ad campaign, State Farm Insurance Super Bowl Campaign, and LG Phones to name a few). Her hunger to wander also led her to sing and dance with women in the jungle on a humanitarian trip to Kenya, to lead an artists’ retreat to Morocco, to guest-star with orchestras, rock bands and bluegrass revivalists. Suddenly, she found herself with a #1 single in Korea, sold-out tours in Japan, and sold out shows peppering the U.S. The trails she has blazed, complete with unexpected forks, twists and turns, have brought her to the destination of an upcoming new album on her musical map, appropriately titled, ‘Rabbit Hole.’

May’s theme is COMMITMENT
A commitment is a promise to show up whether you’re having a good or bad day.

It’s a behavior and mindset that signifies the posture of a professional. It’s about saying yes with your whole heart.

A creative life is built on the commitments you make to projects and people. It can feel like a leap of faith. But is that not the very essence of leading a creative life?

This month’s global exploration of Commitment was chosen by our Vienna chapter and illustrated by Florine Glück. Thank you to our global partners MailChimpAdobe, and WordPress.com for their ongoing support of the CreativeMornings community.

Betsy Brunner at Creative Mornings SLC

March 25, 8:30am – 10:00am MDT. Hosted at Odd Fellows Hall

A self-proclaimed “academic mutt,” Betsy Brunner has a BA in English literature, a dual MFA in painting and art history, and an MA and PhD in communication— all to examine their shared role and influence in social movements. As a scholar-activist, she was the organizer for the Beijing-SLC Connect project, which brought artists from Beijing, China to Salt Lake City, Utah to collaboratively explore the issue of air pollution, a challenge which the two cities share. She has also spent a substantial amount of time in China researching the country’s contemporary environmental movement and how it relates to art, images, and social media to trace the ways in which the people of China are deploying creative resistance to protect their environment.

Come join the conversation as Betsy brings her unique local/global perspective to discuss “Change”—what prompts it, what keeps us from it and how the ways we create and connect influence that process and affect the community around us. Don’t miss it!
