Brittani & Sarah Win!

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2018 • 3:00 – 7:30 PM
The Falls Event Center at Trolley Square
580 South 600 East / Salt Lake City, UT

As part of Design Week SLC, a national event, Spicers Paper & Kelly Paper hosted a unique design competition for local makers, printers, artists and designers. Multiple submissions from individuals, design agencies, colleges and universities showcased craftsmanship and the innovative ideas that take shape with paper. Wall hangings, formal art, sculpture, environmental structure and an element of fashion were displayed.

First Place winners were our very own Brittani Hodgkinson and Sarah Landeen, Graphic Design students in the Visual Art & Design Department at Salt Lake Community College.

Their piece depicted people riding a working(!) ferris wheel, a ticket booth, a cotton candy stand, all amid a woven quilt-like sea of green grass dotted with pine trees of many colors and patterns. A paper moon and paper sun adorned each side of the center of the wheel.

The amount of detail spent on each part of this sculpture is difficult to see in photos. Contest rules restricted each sculpture to at least 70% paper. Brittani’s and Sarah’s piece was at least 95% paper! Well done!

Congratulations Brittani and Sarah!
