From Christopher:
“I struggled on “how” to tell this story. . .

Amidst the normal chaos of other projects and daily living, this tragic and triumphant story has permeated my life for the better part of a year—weighing on me to try and get it right.

Not only was the subject matter difficult to tackle, but there were so many facets to the account that required deeper faith and humility—sincere emotional commitment. More than I possessed.”

It (Grid Zine Fest) was fun. Thanks to my friends who came by and especially those who supported Priya’s comic. She’s super excited that people bought her book.

“Thanks to my friend Naima Nawabi for another great photo of Priya and I. Just three more hours to go at the zine fest.”

Lacee Siler Black

“Here are the papers and animal icon illustrations I did for the Pink Paislee Paige Evans “Whimsical” collection. (Paige Taylor Evans Pink Paislee American Crafts ) It was the first scrapbook collection I worked on at American Crafts. I’m proud I was able to capture Paige’s love of cut and pieced paper elements in my designs.”

“Here are some illustrations and some paper patterns I did for a scrapbook line that is being released later this year. I probably did twice as many illustrations than this, but these ones are my favorites. This will probably be my last time doing a big cute scrapbook line, since I changed positions and no longer work on that team.”

“The 100 Show, Salt Lake City’s most prestigious juried competition, honors and showcases the years’ best design. Eligible projects are judged for craft, concept, and aesthetic achievement as determined by our nationally-recognized panel of judges.”

From Jill:
“Guys! I won a Copper Ingot at the AIGA SLC 100 Show this year and am just pleased as punch. It’s a real honor to have my work judged alongside the stellar work of SLC designers and illustrators. Thanks so much to the awesome judges this year for picking up what I put down and for @artistsforeducation for letting me work on such a fun project!”

2016 AIGA Student Portfolio Review
Adobe Campus, Lehi, UT
Saturday, April 9, 2016

“The Annual AIGA Student Portfolio Review is designed to serve undergraduate students from Utah State University, Weber State, University of Utah, Salt Lake Community College, Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University and Southern Utah University.” ~ AIGA SLC

AIGA Salt Lake City’s 2016 Student Portfolio Review is always a great event for students to gain advice, insight and industry information from SLC professional designers as well as design and illustration faculty from Utah colleges.

SLCC VAD Associate Professor Kerry Gonzales and Adjunct Instructor Virag White, both in the Graphic Design program, joined their advanced students at this year’s event. Kerry and Virag were able to review students from other institutions. Both said they were very proud of the VAD Graphic Design and Illustration students who showed their portfolios and were reviewed by creative directors and faculty from other institutions.

Graphic Design students Anastasiya Bobrova, Todd Erickson, Missy Healy, Erin Salazar, and Illustration students Trevor Anthony Quong, Jennifer Mellen, and Ryan Winward were among those showing portfolios. Their student peers in the VAD Department cheered these students on.

Kolbie Carver, a former and now returning VAD student, and VAD Graphic Design Alumnus John Paul Brantly, now finishing his BFA at Utah State University, were also spotted showing portfolios.

Adobe, the Official Sponsor for Design Solutions, hosted this event at their Lehi campus.
