“Shirt design for Salt Lake Hardcore band SPENT. Thanks to Ryan for reaching out for the opportunity. This design is the result of Ryan sending me the lyrics to an unreleased song of theirs title Gatekeeper. I immediately connected with the message and the imagery quickly followed. @spent.hc is out their working hard and doing great things. Catch them at a show or give them a listen.”

Ryan Bangerter

“We did it! The #EmyandHerald Kickstarter has been fully funded! Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed so far! In the last 9 days of the campaign we will try to reach our first stretch goal. Which is the Emy & Herald art book! To learn more about it, and other rewards from the campaign, check out the link below.”

“I’ve added a new design to my shop! Did I put this design up there just so I could order stuff for myself? Maaaaaaybe…

“NEW DESIGN! I’ve done this labrador in a messier, more painterly style. I’ve also kept it to just black and white, and I really like the minimalist looks this gives it!”

“I am honored to announce that I have been featured by the generous and fascinating Artists Are Cool on YouTube. As many of you know, I’m not great at screen and/or photographic interactions. This project pushed my comfort boundaries but it was worth it. I’m so excited to share my Artists Are Cool with you.”

“Just like when I was a student, I always make 3D dummies of large print projects. This not only helps me visualize how the print will look in 3D space, but it also helps the client see what the final result will look like. I think clients sometimes have a hard time picturing the final result of a flat-looking illustrator file, so dummies are essential! Here are the dummies I made for the vending machine project.”

The annual INK Show is back in the East Foyer of SLCC South City Campus! Because of Covid-19 the 2020 Show was online.

In 2010, Salt Lake Community College Visual Art & Design Graphic Design students Nadya Bratt & Casey Kim created INK as a club for anyone interested in Graphic Design. After their graduation from SLCC, INK evolved into an online resource for those passionate about the visual communication industry by offering access to news, resources, and networking.

Associate Professor Kerry Gonzáles / Photo: Scott Fineshriber

VAD Associate Professor Kerry Gonzáles and caretaker for INK, is proud to share the talents and creative directions taken by Alumni & Friends of INK in this – the seventh annual – INK, an Alumni Art & Design Group Show.

The alumni highlighted this year:

Layla Burchett
Allison Fisher
Anamaye Lanayru
Sarah Landeen
Kesia Nielsen
Rachel Tonkovich
Hali Vanderburg
~ in remembrance

Each piece showcases the design process from initial research and ideas to a completed product. And most importantly… how a good foundation in graphic design is used in a multitude of careers.

“Dugout stuff.”

Alisa Bishop Bradley

“I can finally share what I have been working on at Pokemon!”

Nadya Bratt

“It’s been a year since I’ve worked on this project. No better time than now to get back into it.”

Melanie Bunch

“What do you do when the package you’re designing needs to print on a 34″ x 32″ sheet? You make a tiny scale model, just like you were told to in Package Design Class! And there I was, thinking I’d never use those mock-up skills! Kerry Gonzáles was right! Also, this tiny box is ADORABLE!!!!”

“I’m very proud of how my first official hand lettering project turned out, even if it’s for such a sad occasion. I wrote each word individually on another paper, then cut out my best ones and did a paste-up to get the right placement. Even adjusted the kerning in a few spots while I was at it.”

Natalee Cooper Chilton

‘”Joined the @hydrojug team this week and will be heading up all design for their newly acquired @acta.wear. It’s a lot to learn but I’m super excited for this opportunity and maybe this is my wake up call to drink water.🤣

“We built a new photo studio at @walkeredisonco this year. The shots the team is getting in the new space are amazing. It is truly remarkable how far our images have come in the past 3 years.”

Ryan Bangerter

“This is Herald. The other main character from the graphic novel I’m writing. Herald is 1 part evil imp and 2 parts adorable. Don’t let his cuteness deceive you. He has one wicked personality!”

“This is Emy, one of the main characters of the graphic novel I am currently writing. Emy is a 13 year old with a wild imagination, and a dark sense of humor.”

Lacee Siler Black

“Have been mostly quiet this year with all the upheaval that 2020 has brought (not just generally, but for me personally). Thought I’d share a throw back to two months ago. This was a little flyer I threw together for a neighborhood social event in September. Happy fall everyone.”

Anna Florin

“Self-portrait.”

Amber Giles

“Sunday Night Lettering. 📝🖊. . .Although the last several months have been trying for all of us in a plethora of ways, I’ve been reflecting today on gratitude and the good things that have happened. There is a lot to be grateful for, even though it can be hard to see sometimes. So keep your eyes open and you’ll be amazed at what tender mercies come your way.” 🙂❤️

Alexander Hofstetter

“Walking out and about, ascending and descending mountains, crossing rivers and streams, I have painted 250+ small paintings this year in solitude. A selection of approximately 1/3rd of these are now on display at the Urban Arts Gallery, November 3 – 29th at the Gateway, 116 S Rio Grande St, Salt Lake City, UT 84101.”

Esther Longmore

“Just my latest pattern. This could work in my living room. I might need to order fabric.” 🤗

Because I love this education, but then realized I’d been asked alongside tech directors at Adobe, Fidelity, Vivent, & The State of Utah. As a woman of color in tech, it’s a nice moment of inclusion to see my name with the “big guys.” #feelingproud#womenintech🤓❤️

Super basic, but I’m experimenting with gouache paint! This is one of my quarterly goals at work so hopefully I have a chance to get better at it.

“IDK if this is finished, but I am for the night.” 😆

New drawing, testing out the halftone effect in the new Procreate update. Also been listening to a podcast that talks about black and white comics a lot, so I thought I’d play with that too.
