The Visual Art & Design Department invites all Salt Lake Community College students to participate in a poster design contest announcing the 2023 SLCC Student Art Showcase.
This contest is open to all presently enrolled SLCC and SLCC Concurrent Enrollment students. Professionals, instructors, or students working as professionals are not eligible. Entrants must be able to verify student status.
The winning poster design will be used to promote the 2023 SLCC Student Art Showcase on campus as well as other venues and media. In addition, $200 will awarded to the winner.
Exhibit Dates: April 4 through April 14*, 2022 Salt Lake Community College Multipurpose Room 1575 South State Street / SLC, UT
Monday through Friday / 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
*Exhibit closes at 4 p.m. on April 14.

The Visual Art & Design Department is proud to present the 2019 Guest Artist Series.
KELTON CRAM earned a BFA in Sculpture and Painting from Northwest College of Art in Seattle, WA, and then completed his education at Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood, CA.
Kelton started his career as an illustrator, then moved into digital art and became a conceptual designer in the film industry for costume, creature and environment.
His work has been featured in more than 50 Hollywood titles, including many of the Marvel and DC superhero films such as “The Amazing Spiderman”, “Batman vs. Superman”, “Deadpool 2”, as well as “Lord of the Rings” and Stephen King’s “It.”
Alongside his career as a concept designer, Kelton also teaches Advanced Character and Creature Design courses at Chicago University and Gnomon School of Visual Effects.
Each year the Visual Art & Design Department hosts an art show for Salt Lake Community College students. Maja Keefer, VAD Graphic Design student, designed this year’s poster. Her artwork can be seen on posters, banners and digital screens throughout the SLCC campuses.
VAD encourages all SLCC students to enter in the following categories:
• Fine Art: studio drawing, painting, various traditional and digital media
• Illustration: traditional and digital
• Photography: traditional and digital
• Design: print, screen printing, package design, type and calligraphy
• Mixed Media: includes artwork made with several different mediums combining the various categories
• Multimedia: web design and video
• Animation: 2D and 3D video
• 3D Design: jewelry, sculpture, pottery, ceramics and metalwork

The Visual Art & Design Department is proud to present the 2017 Guest Artist Series.
Marnie Powers-Torrey is the Managing Director of the Book Arts Program and Red Butte Press at the University of Utah. She holds an MFA in Photography from the University of Utah and a BA in English and Philosophy from Boston College’s Honors Program.
Serving as the faculty mentor for the minor and certificate in Book Arts, she also teaches letterpress printing, artists’ books, and other courses for the Book Arts Program and elsewhere. Marnie is master printer for the Red Butte Press, harnessing the mighty printing power of a staff of excellent printers.
As a founding member of the College Book Arts Association, she served as Awards Chair for three years and VP for Nominations & Membership for two. Marnie’s work is exhibited and held in collections nationally.
