2019 SkillsUSA Competition

From SkillsUSA:

SkillsUSA’s 55th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference — including the SkillsUSA Championships, a showcase of career and technical education students — was held in Louisville, Kentucky, June 24 – 28, 2019. More than 15,000 people, including students, teachers and business partners, participated in the week-long event.

SLCC Visual Art & Design Department Assistant Professor Virag White accompanied three very talented Graphic Design & Communications students to this year’s competition. Sandra Castaneda, Maja Keefer, and Allen Muy took part in the week-long contest. All three placed!

Sandra was awarded Bronze in Graphic Imaging – Sublimation, and can be seen in the closing ceremony photo above.

Maja received 4th place in Advertising Design. And Allen received 4th place in Screen Printing.

It wasn’t all work though! Virag, Maja, Allen, and Sandra took some time off to enjoy a Louisville Bats baseball game!

Many thanks to Virag for her time spent as an expert advisor!

We’re so very proud of Sandra, Maja, and Allen, and the exceptional skill they demonstrated at this competition. It’s a major coup that these three all placed in this prestigious national event.

Congratulations to all!
